Galle Face Green

The Galle Face Green was initially laid out by the Dutch as a means to enable their cannons a strategic line of fire against the Portuguese, back in the 17th century. Today it’s an ocean-side urban park in the heart of Colombo.

National Museum of Colombo

 

 

Established in 1877, this is the largest museum in the country and contains collections of great importance, which tell the story of ancient Sri Lanka.

Gangaramaya Temple

This is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Colombo, a mix of modern architecture and cultural essence.

Independence Memorial Hall

A national monument in Sri Lanka built for commemoration of the independence of Sri Lanka from the British rule. The design of the building is based on the royal audience hall of the Kingdom of Kandy, the last native kingdom of the island.

Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque

Popularly known as the ‘Red Mosque’, this architectural wonder is nestled in the heart of Colombo. Women entering are required to cover hair, arms and legs - a shawl might be of use when visiting this monument!

Colombo Dutch Museum

Originally the Dutch Governor's residence during the Dutch rule in 17th century, this building was used as an army hospital, orphanage, police training school and post office to name a few.

Seema Malaka

This temple, inspired by Sri Lanka’s ancient monasteries, is raised on platforms on the Beira Lake and is a beautiful piece of art designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.

Royal Colombo Golf Club

The oldest gold club in Sri Lanka, the Royal Colombo Golf Club was established in 1880 - a go to location for a good although expensive round of golf in Colombo.

Shri Ponnambalawaneswaram Kovil

 

 

Constructed out of solid granite in 1905, this beautiful kovil dedicated to Lord Shiva requires you to leave your shoes at this little hut by the gate and walk in barefoot as a sign of respect.

St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade



A famous Catholic church, this is a national shrine dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua and is well known for its beautiful architecture and devotees of multiple religions. Do note that photos cannot be taken inside the church.

Colombo Lotus Tower

A national symbol for the Pearl of South Asia, "Nelum Kuluna," also known as the Colombo Lotus Tower, is Sri Lanka's tallest skyscraper. It provides a new experience for tourists while also transforming the city's landscape. This tower is no longer just a monumental structure; it has become one of the most well-known tourist attractions.
