Whale watching tour
Mirissa is one of the island's main whale and dolphin-watching locations. It’s especially famous for its whale population, which can be seen from the end of November until April. The most common whales you're likely to spot in Mirissa in the November-April season are blue whales. You may also get lucky and also see sperm whales, humpback whales, and Bryde's whales.
Secret Beach
Despite what the name suggests, it is not really a secret anymore. A small hidden beach with a bay area just around the corner from the town’s main beach, Mirissa Beach, is perfect for swimming and relaxing for the day. However, the journey to Secret Beach Mirissa is not a simple and easy trail. The steep 2.1km walk takes around 30 minutes from the main beach in Mirissa, and if you are walking, it’s best to leave before the peak heat of the day. It can be tough walking uphill
in the sun.
Coconut Tree Hill
It is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Sri Lanka and one of the top things to do in Mirissa. As it is a very popular spot, it does get very busy, especially during the day. Coconut Hill is the perfect place to watch a sunset in Mirrisa, but as you can imagine, it can be very crowded at this time.
Surfing in Weligama
Weligama is a small beach town that’s widely known as the capital of surfing.
It is perfect for beginners learning the ropes, or for those brushing up on their skills before heading to some more advanced destinations around the area.
The waves in Weligama bay are perfect for learning to surf, as they are small and consistent.
